There are investigations pending we have heard, but with the wait, we have realized, here at Lucky Dog, that doing good things in honor of Parrot have been helping all of us heal.

Just last weekend, Lucky Dog, other rescues such as Bully Paws and our dog trainer, Training by Julie, participated in Pit Bull Awareness Day. Your Dog's Best Friend doggy daycare center welcomed the troops of Lucky Dog, numerous volunteers, and a lot of wonderful Pits to play and Barbeque and just enjoy the day. There were educational fliers, stories of pits in our history (amazing stories and heroes!), memories of all the "bully" breeds that we have rescued and found loving home for, and lastly, reminders of all of Parrot's Pals. These dogs were saved with the donations given in honor of Parrot and Lucky Dog vows to help these dogs in need.

So while we wait for some sort of closure to the investigations, lets open this new chapter with the good that has come and the remember how we can help these dogs that are frowned upon by many. But those who know them, know that they have human personalities and all the love in the world to give!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08594027294672417928noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134097953118866368.post-28651561009006914082010-09-22T16:26:00.001-07:002010-09-22T16:26:46.926-07:00From Micha... one of Parrot's event handlers"Goofy. That's the first word that came to mind when I met Parrot. It
was the perfect word to sum him up. He had this goofy large head that
was out of proportion to his body. When I was with him, he always had
this huge goofy grin and I couldn't stop myself from pinching both of
his cheeks. That of course made his tail start wagging in his very own
goofy pattern. When he saw potential adopters that he must have wanted
to be his new family, he would throw himself down at their feet with
his tongue lolling out, wagging his tail like crazy, and would wiggle
to get their attention, and hopefully some tummy rubs as well. Despite
the exclamations of "Aw!" and "He's so cute!," no one ever picked
Parrot.
Parrot faced so much strife at the hands of humans in his too short
life but he never let it change him for the worse. He was, and will
always be that goofy and lovable dog that I remember from our times
together. Rest in peace, Parrot. Your soul will always have a home in
my heart and in the hearts of the Lucky Dog community."Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08594027294672417928noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134097953118866368.post-61402479583742601112010-09-19T21:13:00.000-07:002010-09-19T21:20:29.375-07:00Shana - An Emotional Arrival!

Shana flew in first class on her own private plane this Saturday, the 18th. I have ready many accounts of Parrot's story and just cannot make sense of it. I am saddened by what seems to be an abuse of power by the DC Police Dept.

I am spreading the word though Facebook, but would like to do more.

My son Burton (he's 14) and our rescued Pit Bull, Belle will be competing for the Skyhoundz World Championship in Youth Freestyle (canine disc) on Sep. 25-26 in Chattanooga, TN. We would like to honor Parrot by dedicating their performance to his memory.

I have 3 Pit Bulls, 2 of which compete in disc dog sports and we have always gone above and beyond to display a positive image of the breed we care so much about. I hope that this little gesture will in some small way help to raise awareness of the continued struggle we must go though every day to prove we have great dogs.

My sincere sympathy on your loss.

Regards,
Burt Tienken
Florence, KY

P.S. Whenever you saw him, you had to say hello. I later visited him at the kennel, and then at several more adoption events. Always happy, always hoping for a loving touch from every passerby. At a recent event, he was pawing at a water bowl, in the hopes of spilling it to create a cool puddle- my fellow trainer James "helped" by pouring the entire bowl over Parrot, making him beam ear to ear. We will all miss you, Parrot. You have now found peace."Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08594027294672417928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134097953118866368.post-85987544794120046342010-09-16T05:18:00.000-07:002010-09-16T05:19:13.884-07:00Please sign this Petition!!!We've set up a petition to make it easy for people to let the police
department know how they feel:
http://www.change.org/petitions/view/demand_justice_for_dog_shot_at_dc_festival

Every time someone signs, an email will be sent on their behalf to the
police department, demanding justice for Parrot and steps to prevent future
tragedies like this one.
- change.orgAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08594027294672417928noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3134097953118866368.post-34253625335565335662010-09-15T08:43:00.000-07:002010-09-15T08:47:36.783-07:00Parrot smiling pretty and hour before he was shot.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O0THINEFxdM/TJDqZn-2H2I/AAAAAAAAAGc/IUG_Th7aGio/s320/parrot+one+hour.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517167269479063394" />
Parrot was greeting and strutting his stuff to all the tables of politicians an hour before his death. I just read the story about Parrot and the dreadful way that his life was ended. My heart goes out to you and to Parrot, poor defenceless voiceless creature. A fellow Earthling, yet we humans think we own the joint. A quote from Mahatma Gandhi "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated". Just a super friendly dog looking for his forever home. There are many pictures of him enjoying the kiddie pools at events over the summer, but he also enjoyed playing in the hose in my yard while we fostered him. Because of his allergies (and his fairly lengthy house training process) he needed frequent baths (usually several times a week.) Some dogs are a nightmare to bathe, but it was always the highlight of Parrot's day! Bathes combined two of Parrot's favorite things: getting his belly rubbed and water! He would just sit patiently, tail wagging, looking up lovingly as you lathered him up. After you rinsed him off, he didn't want to get out of the shower, but a gentle nudge and he would reluctantly head back into his crate and await his post bathing chewy treat. He was also a breeze to dry. One shake, and he was ready to go. Parrot was such a tolerant, go with the flow kinda guy." - Jessica, Parrot's first fosterAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08594027294672417928noreply@blogger.com1
